What to Wear

This is easily the most common question I get asked and for good reason. What you wear to your photo session can influence the overall look and feel of your images. It is important to pick outfits that not only photograph well, but make you feel comfortable.

In this post I’ve shared all my tips for selecting and coordinating your outfits.

WHAT TO WEAR

  • Comfortable clothing – more than anything I want you to feel comfortable.
  • Earthy tones like browns, creams and burnt oranges photograph particularly well
  • Pair simple cotton pieces with fabrics with texture like denim, linen, knits and lace
  • If coordinating multiple people, opt for a colour palette rather than 1 or 2 block colours to avoid being too matchy matchy
  • For family sessions, I recommend always picking out Mum’s outfit first and coordinating the family to compliment her outfit
  • Simple accessories that compliment your outfit
  • Please always bring spare hair ties and pins

WHAT TO AVOID

  • Neon and fluorescent colours
  • Small, detailed patterns
  • Strips and spots
  • Obvious logos
  • Flannel shirts
  • Short skirts and dresses
  • If shooting at a botanical garden or forest, avoid greens as you’ll blend in

If you’re ever unsure, please feel free to send me photos of the items you are considering wearing prior to your session.
