First Birthday Cake Smash

My sweet girl turned one recently and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do my first cake smash!

Cake smashes have always made me nervous and capturing my own daughter’s felt pretty high stakes. I put so much pressure on myself to get this session perfect, but in the end I am so happy with how these shots turned out.

I always want to create work that speaks to my style of photography and the big colourful cake smashes while beautiful, just aren’t me. However I am so in love with how this simple set up came together. It’s exactly what I hoped for and now I’m so excited to shoot more.

Liliana wasn’t that into smashing the cake. She mostly gently picked off the berries and pulled a few faces from their tartness. While she never ended up smashing into the cake, she did pull it over and still managed to get plenty messy. I really wanted to just capture her cake smash experience honestly, so rather than trying to get her to make a huge mess, I just sat back and let her explore the cake how she felt comfortable.

It was such a fun experience and in the end, I wondered why I was ever so nervous. If you’re chasing a minimalist, boho/whimsical vibe for your little one’s cake smash, I would love to be considered. I can bring a pop up studio to your home for easy bathtub access afterwards or if you’d like an outdoor cake smash, I can do that too.

Please note, that due to insurance reasons I cannot provide the cake. This will have to be sourced by yourself.
